Bloxsom Breaks Into the Top Five on Carrera Cup North America Debut

The young Australian arrived at the famous Brickyard this weekend to take on another new challenge in what is quickly becoming an impressive international racing programme.

Lockie Bloxsom has made an impressive start to his Porsche Carrera Cup North America campaign, fighting his way to a top-five finish on debut at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The young Australian arrived at the famous Brickyard this weekend to take on another new challenge in what is quickly becoming an impressive international racing programme.

Driving the No. 60 JDX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Bloxsom wasted little time showing he belonged amongst the North American field.

Qualifying saw Lockie put the Porsche eighth on the grid for Saturday’s opening 40-minute race – a strong starting position in a highly competitive Carrera Cup field and at a circuit where track position can be crucial.

But it was in the race where things really started to get interesting.

Taking the Fight to America

The opening race ran without a caution period, meaning there was nowhere to hide and no Safety Car to bring the field back together.

Championship leader Tyler Maxson controlled proceedings from pole position at the front, eventually taking victory ahead of Janne Stiak and Aaron Jeansonne.

Behind them, however, there was plenty happening.

Bloxsom found himself right in the middle of the battle, taking on some of the established Carrera Cup North America competitors and maintaining his challenge throughout the 40-minute race.

It wasn’t without drama.

Bloxsom was involved in an incident with Cole Kleck, with officials subsequently determining Kleck responsible and applying a 10-second post-race penalty.

Lockie kept his head down and continued racing.

And when the chequered flag fell and the final results were settled, the Australian had secured fifth place on his Carrera Cup North America debut.

That’s a serious first-up result.

Another Big Step for Bloxsom

The Indianapolis result continues what has been an important year of international experience for Lockie.

Earlier in 2026, Bloxsom competed in Porsche Sprint Challenge North America with JDX Racing, immediately making an impression against the American competition.

At Barber Motorsports Park he recorded two second-place finishes, before backing that up at Sonoma Raceway with another pair of runner-up results.

Four starts. Four podiums.

His return to the United States at Indianapolis represents another step up – this time joining the Porsche Carrera Cup North America field and competing at one of motorsport’s most famous venues.

And coming away with a top-five result at the first attempt is a pretty handy way to introduce yourself.

From Australia to the Brickyard

For any young driver, racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is significant.

It’s a circuit steeped in motorsport history, and this weekend’s Carrera Cup races form part of IMSA’s TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks – one of the major sports-car weekends on the American racing calendar.

The Indianapolis road course measures 2.439 miles and features 14 turns, with Carrera Cup’s identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machinery placing an enormous emphasis on driver performance.

Against that backdrop, Bloxsom’s fifth-place result becomes another important milestone in his development.

From racing Carrera Cup in Australia to taking on Porsche competition in the United States, Lockie is continuing to build experience on different circuits, against different drivers and in different racing environments.

And he’s doing more than simply making up the numbers.

He’s racing them.

One More Race at Indy

There’s another opportunity still to come.

Race 2 of Porsche Carrera Cup North America’s Indianapolis weekend is scheduled for Sunday, giving Bloxsom another chance to take the fight to the North American field.

After qualifying eighth and finishing fifth in his opening race, there is plenty to look forward to.

For those of us following Lockie’s journey from this side of the world, it’s another exciting chapter in the story.
