Some machinery just deserves a proper send-off. That is exactly the vibe Jamie Whincup has revealed about parting ways with chassis 888A-068, the last Chevrolet Camaro Supercar still sitting in Triple Eight’s shed.
The car is no stranger to silverware chasing. It carried Craig Lowndes and Zach Bates through the 2025 Great Race, and now it is heading to Garry Rogers Motorsport for a fresh chapter at the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000.

GRM’s return to the grid comes as a one-off wildcard, at least for now, with veteran James Moffat teaming up with debutant Nathan Herne. It is a great story in itself, a well known name stepping back into the fold alongside a young talent ready to make his mark.
Triple Eight had been quietly hoping to find the right home for the Camaro for a while. As it turned out, the opportunity landed when GRM’s plans to lease a car from Erebus Motorsport hit a snag, opening the door for this handover instead.
For Whincup, it clearly was not just about moving on a spare chassis. There is an extra factor at play, the kind of respect between teams and people who understand what these cars represent once the season ends and the next one begins.
It is the sort of moment that reminds you why Bathurst always delivers more than lap times. New faces, old friends, and history changing hands, all before a wheel is even turned in anger.
